South-Eastern Island Quest
Embark on the magical journey along the breathtaking south-east coast of Mauritius.
Meet Rudy, who will welcome you with this warm smile Mauritians are renowned for. This friendly guide was born in Mahebourg and his family has been showing Mauritius’ beauty to tourists for 2 generations now. Rudy’s passion is to take visitors out on his boat Blueberry, cruising since 2001, to share with them the incredible beauty of “his” coast.
Start this memorable day with a light breakfast and drinks onboard while starting the cruise from Mahebourg. Enjoy the breathtaking coastal views and pay a visit to our sister islets, l’île aux Fouquets, also called l’île au Phare, and l’île aux Aigrettes.
L’île aux Aigrettes, which is today a protected nature reserve, will take you back in time. In fact, it’s the last little haven where you can admire authentic endemic nature and have a clear idea of what Mauritius looked like 400 years ago. Since 1985, the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation has been intensely restoring l’île aux Aigrettes by weeding out introduced plants and reintroducing endemic plants, birds and reptiles that used to be part of its native flora and fauna.
L'île aux Fouquets is known for its lighthouse built in 1864. This lighthouse guided ships to the harbour of Mahebourg during the French settlement before the harbour was moved to Port Louis in the early 20th century by the British. With the port relocating, the lighthouse was abandoned and fell into ruin. Today it is a favorite picnic spot for local people and fishermen and a nesting place for tropical birds. It is also where you will enjoy a sumptuous barbecue lunch, prepared on the spot for you.
By the way, Rudy is not just a great skipper and host, he also has a great eye for photography. Don’t hesitate to ask him to take some good souvenir shots for you.
