Sea Kayaking Ambre Island
Discover Ile d'Ambre, one of the last wild sanctuaries of the country during this wonderful trip. Located just a stone's throw away from the north-east coast of Mauritius, this tiny island is rich in biodiversity and history. The dense mangroves offer the ideal settings for kayaking and will help you understand the fragile marine ecosystem.
The trip starts off with a short briefing on kayaking and some safety measures. You will then leave in a group with a qualified sea kayak instructor and paddle across approximately 300 meters to reach the mangroves around the island. This is truly a magical experience, during which you find your way along narrow passages and learn about the marine ecosystem. You can stop and snorkel in the mangroves to see the roots and the juvenile fish that live there to protect themselves from larger fish.
You will then continue to a jetty where your instructor will take you on a short stroll on Ile d'Ambre. There, you will discover the island’s fascinating history and explore ruins dating back to 1750. Afterwards, you will paddle back to the mainland or reach L'île aux Bernaches, a tranquil islet where you can enjoy white sandy beaches, a refreshing swim and a great picnic lunch.
