Electro Bike at Le Grand Port
Get ready to unveil treasures from the past and explore the last ruins of Dutch, French and British colonisation! This beautiful ride on Electro-Bikes has been created for those who want to indulge their curiosity with interesting historical visits. The journey begins with a delicious brewed coffee or a fresh juice in the colonial house, Jardin de Beau Vallon, a place renown for its amazing cuisine. Riding along the Lion Mountain, you reach Bois des Amourettes, a small village whose jetty was built during the Battle of Grand Port.
Your next stop is the remains of the Dutch-built Fréderick Hendrick Fort, the first stone building of the Indian Ocean, a fascinating sight in beautiful surroundings. During the ride, you will meet local craftsmen weaving the traditional “vacoas” baskets, a skill which has been practised for hundreds of years by the villagers of Vieux Grand Port.
You will meet Pop, one of the last marine carpenters of the island. Salima, his wife will be delighted to offer you a refreshing tamarind juice, a drink highly enjoyed by locals. On your way, you will be amazed by the landscape of Vallée de Ferney, an outstanding wildlife reserve where you will have lunch at La Falaise Rouge, a restaurant boasting a scrumptious cuisine and a stunning view.
You will cross Cavendish Bridge and La Chaux River and reach Ville Noire, a village of warm people and local merchants. The tour will end with an interesting visit at the National History Museum of Mauritius, located at Mahebourg, showcasing collections of relics recovered from sunken ships, old maps, landscape paintings and the skeleton of the famous dodo.
